This month started off beautifully. I had posts scheduled, clients supported, and homeschool running smoothly—especially since we focused a lot on science, which meant things like science kit experiments, videos, and interesting documentaries. It also marked the final stretch of our homeschool year. Technically, we still have a week left, but in true relaxed homeschool fashion…no one’s really counting.
There was a flurry of wrapping things up—our last charter school meeting, making sure the kids have the support they need for next year, helping my oldest sign up for dual enrollment at the community college (cue proud tears and wondering how we got here so fast), getting all the appointments we’ve been putting off done. Like right now I’m at the dealership getting my car serviced.
Then, like clockwork, spring allergies arrived, and with them, the usual suspects: runny noses, coughing fits, and that charming nasal drip that makes recording anything basically impossible. The kids had a quick one-day bug, too, which threw us all off just enough to slow things down. Then my husband had to suddenly travel out of town for work, and schedules had to be moved, and…yeah.
But here’s the thing—I didn’t spiral.
A few years ago, I would’ve panicked about not posting enough on Instagram and YouTube or falling behind or things not going to plan. Now? I’ve moved to the slow lane, just like my business coach always says. I haven’t pulled off the road entirely—I’m still writing on Substack, editing travel vlogs, supporting clients, and putting the finishing touches on an ebook I’m so excited to share with you. I’m just not “on” as much. And that’s okay.
Oh—and in the middle of all that? I accidentally went viral on my travel Instagram account. After years of letting it sit quiet, I randomly decided to post something and… well, the internet did its thing. Totally unexpected, a little chaotic, and very on-brand for how this month has gone.
So, if you need the reminder, you don’t need to constantly be doing big things to move forward. Slowing down doesn’t mean stopping. It means you're listening to your body, your season, and your life. And that matters more than keeping up with the internet.
Summer is almost here, and we’re planning to keep it simple—beach days, surf camp, jiu-jitsu, gardening, visiting family, fire academy for my oldest, less time on social media for me, and lots of open space for unstructured fun. I hope you find your version of that too.
xo, Xuan
