Hey there, friend.
The holidays are packed with traditions, aren’t they?
From the way we decorate to the food we eat, and the activities we pack into an already busy season.
Some of those traditions fill us with joy, while others… not so much.
But here’s the thing: traditions should feel good.
They should reflect what matters most to us and our families—not just what we’ve always done or what we feel pressured to do.
This year, I’ve been thinking a lot about the traditions my family keeps.
Which ones we love, which ones we’ve outgrown, and which ones just don’t align with the values we hold dear anymore.
And instead of clinging to “shoulds,” I’m leaning into creating traditions that bring connection, joy, and simplicity to our holiday season.
Reflecting on Current Traditions
If you feel like you’re doing certain things out of obligation instead of love, it might be time to ask yourself a few questions:
Does this tradition bring me or my family joy?
Does it align with our values and what we want the holidays to feel like?
Do we actually enjoy doing this, or is it just stressful?
For example, we used to attend every free holiday event in our area.
But after a few years of running ourselves ragged, we realized it wasn’t working for us.
We’d be exhausted, cranky, and disconnected by the end of the season—definitely not how we wanted to feel.
So we let that tradition go.
Creating New Traditions
Letting go of old traditions can be bittersweet, but it also opens the door for new ones that feel more aligned with who you are now. Here are a few ideas to spark inspiration:
Simplify Gift-Giving
Instead of buying endless presents, consider gifting experiences or doing a “something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read” approach.Slow Down with Seasonal Activities
Maybe instead of rushing through a packed calendar, you commit to one cozy family night a week—baking cookies, doing a puzzle, or watching a favorite holiday movie.Focus on Giving Back
Incorporate service into your holiday traditions, like donating toys, volunteering, or writing cards for people in need.Embrace Nature
Go for a family hike, visit a local tree farm, or create simple homemade ornaments with natural materials.Make Time for Reflection
Start a gratitude advent jar where everyone writes something they’re thankful for each day leading up to the holidays. Then, read them together on Christmas Eve.
It’s About Connection
At the end of the day, the best traditions are the ones that bring your family closer together.
They don’t have to be Pinterest-perfect or Instagram-worthy—they just need to feel meaningful to you.
And the best part? Traditions don’t have to be set in stone. They can evolve as your family grows and changes.
This year, I encourage you to reflect on your current traditions.
Keep the ones that light you up, let go of the ones that don’t, and create new ones that align with your values and the season you want to experience.

Here's What My Clients Are Saying:
When in session with Xuan, I could feel her calming and centering energy even through a computer screen. She has such a gentle yet commanding presence that made me feel safe and confident. Xuan made me feel very seen, heard, and like no topic was off limits. Even if it was something I really didn’t want to admit out loud, she held the space with ease and allowed me to feel brave enough to express myself without feeling judged. - Chelsea L.
