Hey friend,
It’s that time of year when social media feeds are overflowing with beautifully decorated homes, perfect family photos, and elaborate holiday spreads.
You know the ones—the kind that look straight out of a magazine.
And while I love a cozy aesthetic as much as anyone, scrolling through it all can leave me feeling… less than.
Suddenly, my perfectly fine tree feels sparse.
My cozy but mismatched decor seems inadequate.
And my simple family traditions feel, well, a little boring.
But as I’ve reminded myself (and now I’m reminding you), the holidays aren’t a competition.
Social media has a way of amplifying the highlights, but what matters most happens away from the screens—at your dinner table, in your living room, and during those perfectly imperfect moments with your loved ones.
How I’m staying grounded this season
To keep myself from falling into the comparison trap, I’m leaning into these reminders:
What You See Isn’t the Whole Story
Those picture-perfect feeds? They’re curated. Behind every flawless photo is probably a mess just out of frame (or at least a very stressed-out person!)
Your Holidays Should Feel Good to You
What works for someone else may not align with your family’s needs, values, or season of life—and that’s okay. Your traditions, your pace, and your priorities are enough.
Gratitude Beats Comparison Every Time
Instead of scrolling, I’m trying to focus on what I already have: a warm home, happy kids (most of the time), and simple traditions that feel good to us.
Set Boundaries with Social Media
I’ve started limiting how much time I spend scrolling during the holidays. A quick check-in is fine, but if I feel the comparison creeping in, I log off (or more like delete the app!) and redirect my energy.
Staying true to what matters
When I feel the pressure to do more, decorate more, or create some “Instagram-worthy” version of the holidays, I try to pause and ask myself:
• Does this add joy, or does it add stress?
• Am I doing this for us, or because I feel like I should?
Nine times out of ten, the answer helps me recalibrate and stay true to what actually matters—connection, love, and a season that feels calm and meaningful.
Your Turn
If you’ve been feeling the pressure to keep up with the holiday “perfect” parade, I want you to know you’re not alone.
